Stainless Steel 904L contains 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, 1–2% copper, and up to a maximum of 0.02% carbon. It yields exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. 904L welded tubing has a tensile strength of 490–740 MPa and yield strength of approximately 220 MPa, with elongation of ≥35%. Welded tubing of 904L retains excellent formability and toughness and is good in oxidizing as well as reducing conditions. Its low carbon composition reduces the possibility of carbide precipitation upon welding, thus making it suitable for high-integrity welded piping systems and structures.
