Stainless Steel 904L has 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, 1–2% copper, and up to 0.02% carbon. It has very good resistance against corrosion, particularly in aggressive reducing acids such as sulfuric acid. The strength of the alloy is 490–740 MPa tensile and yield strength of approximately 220 MPa with elongation ≥35%. It also shows very good toughness and formability. All these characteristics make it feasible for high-pressure and high-purity systems. The metal is simple to weld and manufacture, providing consistent and durable performance under harsh conditions.
