Stainless Steel 904L has about 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, 1–2% copper, and low carbon (max 0.02%), possessing superior corrosion resistance. The tensile strength is 490–740 MPa and yield strength is around 220 MPa with good elongation (≥35%). It has excellent toughness, formability, and weldability. 904L is resistant to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, particularly in chloride-rich and acidic environments. These characteristics render it extremely well-suited for applications in harsh operating conditions for heat exchangers.
