Stainless Steel 347 and 347H have 17–20% chromium and 9–13% nickel, and are stabilized by columbium (niobium) to impart resistance to intergranular corrosion. The higher carbon content (0.04–0.10%) in 347H is for increased strength at elevated temperatures. The steels provide tensile strength of 515–750 MPa and yield strength of 205–275 MPa. They maintain mechanical stability in high-temperature conditions (up to 870°C), and show very good creep resistance and oxidation resistance. The tubing is simple to form and weld, which makes it suitable for heat exchangers in harsh thermal and chemical conditions.
