Iron, 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum make up stainless steel 316L tubing. Its low carbon content (maximum 0.03%) helps to avoid carbide precipitation during welding. Molybdenum improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in environments with chloride. Excellent mechanical qualities are provided by SS 316L tubing, which has an elongation of 35–40%, a yield strength of 170–310 MPa, and a tensile strength of about 485–620 MPa.
