With a yield strength of about 275 MPa and a tensile strength of roughly 515–750 MPa, this alloy is stronger than SS 304. Good ductility and work-hardening ability are maintained by SS 201. It works well in mild to moderate conditions but is not as corrosion-resistant as SS 304 in extremely aggressive environments. It is appropriate for applications needing formability and strength at a reduced cost due to its superior mechanical qualities, smooth surface finish, and weldability.
