Monel is mainly made up of Nickel (67%) and Copper (about 28–34%), with minute quantities of Iron, Manganese, Carbon, and Silicon. Monel’s nickel-copper combination is highly resistant to seawater, acids, and alkalis. Monel has very good mechanical qualities, such as tensile strength of about 550–620 MPa and yield strength of about 240–345 MPa, depending upon the grade (e.g., Monel 400 or Monel K500). It has high strength and toughness over a broad temperature range, and good weldability and moderate machinability, thus suitable for severe stress applications.
