Invar 36 Pipes contain about 36% Nickel and 64% Iron with trace amounts of Carbon (≤0.05%), Manganese (≤0.6%), and Silicon (≤0.35%). The special composition leads to a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, and the alloy is very dimensionally stable. Invar 36 has a tensile strength of about 490–700 MPa, yield strength of about 240 MPa, and appreciable ductility with elongation of up to 35%. It further has stability over a broad temperature range and offers average corrosion resistance, suitable for high-precision and low-temperature use.
