Duplex 2205 contains about 22% Chromium, 5–6.5% Nickel, 3% Molybdenum, and Bal. Iron with Nitrogen and Manganese traces. The dual-phase steel has superior mechanical properties with tensile strength of 620–880 MPa, yield strength of about 450 MPa, and elongation of 25–30%. It inherits the benefits of both ferritic as well as austenitic stainless steels—providing high strength, easy weldability, and better corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-contaminated environments. Duplex 2205 is tough to cryogenic temperatures and is fatigues-resistant, making it an ideal candidate for dynamic loading applications.
