Normal composition consists of carbon (≤0.30%), manganese (0.60–1.35%), phosphorus (≤0.035%), sulfur (≤0.035%), silicon (0.15–0.40%), and traces of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum if extra properties are required. Mechanical properties consist of a minimum tensile strength of 485 MPa, yield strength of 275 MPa, and elongation ≥22%. They are subjected to ultrasonic inspection and heat treatment for structural integrity and resistance against stress-induced failures in adverse conditions.
