Typical composition consists of carbon (0.24% max), manganese (0.98-1.50%), phosphorus (0.030% max), sulfur (0.030% max), silicon (0.13-0.45%), and trace elements. Pipes provide a minimum tensile strength of 485 MPa, minimum yield strength of 240 MPa, and elongation of 22% or more. They have been found to be tough, weldable, and strong at ambient and sub-zero temperatures, hence used in pressure piping.
