Aluminium 7050 is a heat-treatable alloy of high strength with an approximate composition of 87–90% Aluminium, 5.7–6.7% Zinc, 2.0–2.6% Magnesium, and 2.0–2.6% Copper. The mechanical properties of the alloy are tensile strength of 520–570 MPa, yield strength of 450–505 MPa, and elongation of 10–12%. The alloy has various tempers such as T6 and T7451, with improved resistance to exfoliation and stress corrosion cracking. The alloy retains strength even in thick sections and is machinable after heat treatment.
